Inbound roamers are afraid to use mobile data services when roaming due to perceived high cost and fear of “bill shock”. The vast majority of in-roamers therefore either switches off mobile data when roaming, or replaces their home SIMs for local prepaid SIMs. This compromise leads to bad customer experience and lost revenue for both home and visited operators. As per proposed EU regulations, visited EU operators can now offer local data services to in-roamers, but lack the end-to-end systems needed to manage these transient roamers optimally. With Data Management, Visited Operators can now instantly reach out to in-roamers and offer them local data services and local rates, without them having to compromise on their home connection. This means that they don’t need to swap their home SIM out, and can stay reachable on their home number while taking advantage of data at local rates.

High ARPU Enterprise travelers and other net savvy roamers are in constant need of internet connectivity. When roaming, they are required to purchase mobile or Wi-fi connectivity plans from service provider, or use wi-fi “hotspots”. However the two offerings - mobile and Wi-Fi services - are generally disparate, and visited mobile operators cannot benefit from cross-use, neither can then take steps to increase subscriber stickiness to their networks. With Data Management, Visited Operators can now leverage their existing wi-fi hot-spot infrastructure to increase their mobile roaming usage. In-roamers can be offered free or discounted wi-fi data access as long as they stay latched onto the Visited Operator’s network. This increase subscriber stickiness and encourages roaming data usage.
